We are aware that our operations can have direct and indirect impacts on the environment. At Ernest Henry Mining we identify and analyse the potential impacts of our operations, and reflect these in our planning, management systems and day-to-day activities. We are proud to choose to apply our own standards if these are more stringent than those required by law, regulation, or other requirements.
Water resources are precious in north-west Queensland, and looking after them is central to our environmental management strategies. This includes recycling as much water as possible within our processing operations, minimising fresh water intake from surface storage at Lake Julius, and extensive monitoring of the water table, creeks and rivers in the surrounding area.
We recognise our responsibility for stewardship of the land we use, and actively engage with our pastoral and community neighbours to ensure we are operating in a manner that is appropriate to ensuring the long term health of the area.
